1 |  I’ve never hired a contractor before.  Where do I start?

Right here!  We will get in contact with you as soon as possible, set up an appointment at the potential project site, and give you an estimate for your project. There is no fee for the initial consultation and estimate!

2 | What do I need for the first meeting?

Your ideas, goals, and budget are a great start!  If possible, any dimensions/measurements of the space would be helpful.

3 | I’ve had my initial consultation, now what?

JK Construction Group will define the scope of the work as discussed and create a quote based on the discussions. Typically, you should receive the quote within 1 1/2 weeks after the initial consultation.

4 | How does JK Construction Group know what to quote without having a complete design plan?

We will assess the project as presented in discussion, and advise you regarding the process you will use toward attaining your goals. The proposal we present may include allowances for changeable aspects of the project; if the allowance is exceeded, the difference is handled as an extra. As a simple example, let’s suppose that our bid allows for $600 for a 6 ft bathroom vanity ($100/ft). The vanity you pick out is $900 ($150/ft). The difference, $300 ($900-$600), is an extra, and will be added to your final bill.

5 | What if we want to make changes to the proposal?

The proposal is only the beginning. It is expected that improvements/changes will be made throughout the planning and construction process. These changes are addressed by addenda to the contract. Minor changes may require no addendum, while major changes may require substantial changes to the projected budget.

6 | What are your payment terms?

Typically for our smaller projects, JK Construction Group requires 50% payment upfront and 50% payment upon competition.  Larger projects are typically paid in thirds: 1/3 payment at the start of the project, 1/3 payment during construction, and 1/3 payment upon competition.  In other cases, projects may require alternative payment plans, which will be agreed upon prior to construction.

7 | Who is responsible for permit applications and fees?

JK Construction Group will complete the forms and apply for permits. In most cases once permits are approved, JK Construction Group will pay for the fees.

8 | How long will my job take?

Probably the most common question we encounter. Each job is different, so broad generalities are difficult. Simpler jobs may take as little as 1 day, while a home addition may take 3 months to complete! JK Construction Group will give you a projected start date, as well as a projected completion date for your project, based upon the scope of the work required.

9 | Does JK Construction Group use subcontractors?

JK Construction Group personnel have expertise in many of the trades required for completion of your job. However for larger jobs, (e.g. Additions), portions of the work will be subcontracted (e.g. Electrical and Plumbing) for speed and efficiency. All coordination of the subcontractors will be handled by JK Construction Group.

10 | After my project is complete, if I have a question, or a problem is JK Construction Group available to me?

ABSOLUTELY! At JK Construction Group, we are dedicated to our customers before, during, and AFTER their projects. We will do our best to help you through any concern you may have!
